Couldn't make the Memorial 2002 practice rounds this year ... had some stuff come up. I'll get there next year.

Just a few thoughts and notes on 2001's practice rounds:

• Barbara Nicklaus is the classiest, most gracious lady you could ever hope to meet.
• There are few pairings as fun to watch as John Daly and Fuzzy Zoeller in a practice round.
• Sergio Garcia is a very funny man when you give him an open microphone -- and if he could be bottled, we could solve California's energy problems. :)
• If you see someone who's obviously collecting autographs just to put them on eBay or something and sell them, please have no compunctions about elbowing them out of the way, especially if you let a little kid in ahead of him. Always let the kids in first! And if you see someone giving stuff to kids so that they can get autographs for them to sell, don't hesitate to rat them out. They're not fans, they're vampires.
• Jack will sign everything in sight, if you're patient and don't get in his face. So will Daly.
• I don't blame Tiger one bit for minimizing his time outside the ropes. That wasn't a crowd around him, it was a rugby scrum. I don't know how he deals with that kind of popularity.

I had a good year for collecting autographs, considering I always back off whenever there's a kid waiting. My thanks to the following for signing my book:
